Local Government
Polegate is served by a three tier system of local government. Polegate
Town Council, which administers the very local services, Wealden
District Council and the East Sussex County Council.
Polegate Town Council
Which meets monthly (except August)
in the Council Chamber in The High Street and members of the public
are encouraged to attend. The Council is served by seventeen
Councillors covering three wards, who are returned by election
once every four years. Details of Councillors can be found on this
web site.
The Council provides and maintains Allotments, some Street Lighting,
Bus Shelters, Street Seats, Children’s Play Areas, Recreation
Grounds including facilities on them for cricket, football, stoolball
etc. a skate park a BMX Track and other amenity areas.
The Council Chamber and one other room in the Council Offices
are available for hire at very reasonable rates. Both are air conditioned.

Wealden District Council
With offices at Crowborough
and Hailsham and meets four times a year. They look after
Planning, Housing, Refuse and other Cleansing Services, Off Street
Car Parking, The Environment, and Leisure Services. Polegate
residents return three Councillors to represent them on the District
Council once every four years.

East Sussex County Council
The senior partner
in local administration manages all the larger services; Social
Services, Education, Highways and Transportation,
and Trading Standards. The County Council has its administrative
offices in the County Town of Lewes and various area offices are
situated around the County. Polegate is now combined
with Willingdon, Jevington and East Dean for County Council purposes
and elects two County Councillors once every four years.
