Cold and bogus callers

Although Polegate has been designated a 'No Cold Calling Zone', this does not, unfortunately, have the force of law behind it, and some legitimate companies still choose to ignore the zone.

Polegate Town Council has prepared some simple guidance on dealing with cold callers, which you can read here.

Separate from 'legitimate' cold callers are 'bogus' callers - people who claim to be water company officials, gas meter readers, etc. whose sole aim is to trick their way into peoples' houses in order to steal.

If you suspect a bogus caller is a con-man or woman, contact the police by dialling 999 if the suspect is still nearby, or 101 if they have left the area.

Cuckoo Trail - sewer replacement works

Southern Water's sewer replacement work on the two final sections of the Cuckoo Trail started on the 14th November. The work involves part of the Trail north of Summerhill Lane and south of the A27 towards the new housing development at Dittons Road. The works will be carried out concurrently and are due to be completed by March 2012. The Cuckoo Trail will remain open and an alternative path, suitably signposted, will be made available to Trail users whilst the works are being carried out.

Draft Waste and Minerals Plan

A plan jointly produced by East Sussex County Council, South Downs National Park Authority and Brighton and Hove City Council, to determine how waste will be dealt with and minerals provided up to 2026. The consultation period for the Plan ended on the 8th December 2011.

Movement of bus stop in Hailsham Road

Following a period of public consultation, the wooden bus shelter in Hailsham Road is to be moved closer to the bus stop. At present, its distance from the stop makes it difficult for some users to take advantage of it in inclement weather and still be able to get to a bus before it moves off.
